메허 바바가 푸나의 구루프라싸드에 머물고 있던 어느 날, 아침에 봄베이 고등법원의 수석 판사가 아내, 아이들과 함께 바바의 다르샨에 찾아 왔다.

당시 바바는 은둔중이셨지만, 그들이 바바의 현존과 함께 5분 동안 시간을 보낼 수 있게 허락하셨다.

모든 가족들은 바바의 발 앞에 앉았고, 바바는 그들이 밤에 푹 잤는지를 그리고 각각의 건강에 대해 물어보셨다.

그리고는 그 남자에게 몸을 돌려서 물어보셨다. 

"당신의 직업은 무엇입니까?"

"바바, 저는 판사입니다." 그 남자는 대답했다.

바바는 웃으며 말했다.

"나도 똑같은 직업을 가지고 있소."

그는 잠시 어리둥절해 보였지만, 곧 바바께서 설명하셨다.

"하지만 당신과 내게는 차이점이 있습니다.

죄지은 자가 당신 앞에 가면, 당신은 그의 죄를 판정하여 벌을 줍니다.

반면에 죄지은 자가 내 앞에 오면, 나는 죄를 판정한 후에 용서해 줍니다."

Wordly and Heavenly Justice

During One of Meher Baba's stays at Guruprasad in Poona, the chief Justice of the Bombay High Court arrived one morning with his wife and children, seeking Baba's darshan.

Baba was in seclusion at that time but nevertheless He permitted them to spend five minutes in His presence. 

The whole family sat at His feet and Baba asked whether they had had a good night 's sleep and He enquired of the health of each one.

Then turning to the man, Baba asked, "What is your profession?"

"I am a judge, Baba," the man replied.

Baba smiled and said, "I am in the same profession."

The man seemed confused but a short while later Baba explained.

"There is a differnce between you and Me," He said.

"When a guilty one is brought before you, you establish his guilt and then you punish him. 

On the other hand when a guilty one is brought before Me, I establish his guilt and then I forgive him."
